The Optimal Vision
Leading the way to a clean energy future for all.
The Optimal Mission
Optimal Energy delivers industry-leading guidance to help our clients design and achieve clean energy goals. Our solutions reduce carbon emissions by addressing outdated and unsustainable patterns of energy production and consumption.
- We actively promote integrated clean energy resources.
- We recommend the least-cost, lowest-risk, and most environmentally responsible ways to meet energy needs.
- We provide analysis that is unbiased, and based on relevant research and decades of industry experience.
- We work to ensure that the benefits of clean energy are available to all.

Optimal Energy is committed to reducing the environmental impact of our own business operations. To encourage use of alternative fuel vehicles, we installed an electric vehicle charging station, allowing two employees to switch to all-electric vehicles. Several other commuters drive to work in hybrid cars and employees can also choose to work from home.
Our History
Since our founding in 1996, Optimal Energy has been at the forefront of some of the nation’s leading energy efficiency efforts.
In the late 1990’s, Optimal Energy was intimately involved with the creation of Efficiency Vermont, the nation’s first efficiency utility. Optimal Energy was also a key resource for the state of Massachusetts in their early collaborative approach to developing industry-leading utility-administered programs. We continue to serve this role today, leading a team of consultants that guides a legislatively-empaneled council that oversees one of the most advanced efficiency efforts in the country. In 2012, Optimal Energy opened a second office location in Providence, Rhode Island.

In late 2013, Optimal Energy moved its main office to a building that was centrally located and more efficient than its previous workspace. This move significantly reduced the commute distance for most employees, directly leading to lower transportation-related greenhouse gas emissions.
Optimal Energy works to use energy efficient office equipment and incorporate green building design elements whenever possible. Optimal Energy staff all use EnergyStar® rated laptop computers and monitors. The office building is equipped with high efficiency LED lighting and occupancy sensors throughout, set back thermostats, and a high efficiency natural gas heating system with 95% AFUE.
Optimal Energy further advanced its sustainability efforts in 2015 by purchasing power for our Hinesburg (VT) office from a 7.2 kW solar PV array that provides the majority of the building’s electricity needs.
Optimal Energy uses 100% post-consumer waste recycled paper for all our printing needs and documents are printed on two sides whenever feasible. Optimal Energy also uses paper products with post-consumer recycled content in our kitchen and bathrooms.
