Vermont-Based Firms Advise on Nation-Leading Energy Programs

A Vermont-based consulting team led by Optimal Energy, Inc., with partners Cx Associates and Energy Futures Group, has played a key role in helping Massachusetts to be the top ranked state in the nation by the American Council for an Energy Efficient Economy (ACEEE). ACEEE’s recently released 2017 State Energy Efficiency Scorecard, which rates states based on energy efficiency policy and programs, has placed Massachusetts first for the seventh year in a row.

Since 2009, the Optimal team has assisted the Massachusetts Energy Efficiency Advisory Council with developing, implementing, and evaluating energy efficiency plans administered by a group of the states’ utility companies. These plans, required as part of the state’s Green Communities Act of 2008, included ambitious energy savings targets resulting in nation-leading energy savings. The Optimal team has helped Massachusetts save over 7 million megawatt-hours of electricity and 155 million therms of natural gas and fuel oil, enough energy to power over a million homes and heat over 150 thousand homes for a year. The efficiency programs have also provided over $17 billion in benefits to Massachusetts residents and businesses.

Optimal Energy, Cx Associates and Energy Future Groups also work in several other top ranked states for energy efficiency, including Vermont (#4); Connecticut (#6); and Rhode Island (#3). By providing consulting services to these states, Vermont based firms are playing a significant role in driving cost-effective energy efficiency to reduce carbon emissions, reduce customer energy costs and bolster the region’s economy.

Founded in 1996, Optimal Energy Inc. provides a full range of energy efficiency consulting services to investor and municipally owned utilities, program administrators, state and federal energy offices, regulatory commissions, advisory councils, and advocacy groups. The firm specializes in assessing, developing, designing, planning and launching efficiency programs and policies that effectively address the needs of all stakeholders in a cost effective, balanced fashion.
